Education

D.A.D. has found that teaching students in their individual classrooms has
the best benefit for all. The students are more comfortable asking questions
in their own room and their test scores prove it. When classrooms are
combined or presented at an assembly level, the students are more likely to
visit with their friends and are easily distracted, many hesitant of asking
questions and then later being teased or embarrassed.
D.A.D.'s educational presentations
include pre and post testing as mandated for the Title IV Safe and Drug Free
Schools funding. At the end of each school year, each school that has
requested educational presentations receives their consolidated testing
results and also the compilation of all Oklahoma schools for comparison.
Our curriculum is grade appropriate and D.A.D.'s programs
build on each other year-after-year. Our curriculum can be customized if a
particular topic needs to be addressed at each school. Our programs are
presented in many forms including puppet shows, videos, games, class
discussions and more.
- Short visits to Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten
discussing safety issues.
- Transitional 1st grade, 1st and 2nd grade programs we
discuss self-esteem, habits, controlling anger, general drug awareness
and stranger danger.
- In 3rd and 4th grade programs, we discuss smoking,
bullies, safe and dangerous habits, drug and medicine misuse.
- During 4th and 5th grade programs, we focus more on
the dangers of drugs, addiction and miscommunication. The programs
emphasize good and bad choices and respect for ourselves and others.
Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade receives a color or
activity sheet that goes along with the program presented and students are
offered a paw print stamp on their hand as a reminder that their drug dog
came to visit them.
- For 6th - 8th grade, D.A.D. has 15 programs
available. The subjects include bad friendships, binge drinking, tobacco:smoking and smokeless, alcohol, marijuana and club drugs.
- In 9th - 12th grade, D.A.D. has more than 22 programs
available and these programs cover over-the-counterdrugs,steroids,
methamphetamines and other illegal drugs, drinking and driving and
addiction.
We always have our drug dogs demonstrate their
drug finding ability and their self-control. This teaches the students that
if the dog can use self-control then they can too!
We currently have 80 programs available and are
continually updating and creating new programs to cover any new topics as
needed.
